ACADEMY OF HERU AUSET
Is a weekly Saturday cultural program for children of African descent
(ages 4-13).
Mission: To develop the greatness in our children through play, learning
and Imagination rooted in the richness of African traditions and
cultural expressions.
What we offer: African History, Science Club, Reading Club, Painting,
Arts & Crafts, Capoeira, African Drumming, Drawing, Public Speaking,
Jewelry-making, Field Trips, Creative Writing, Cooperative Play and lots
of fun!

MUSIC WORKSHOPS
Ottawa Board of Education Special Interest Programs for youth and
adults. Blues musician Maria Hawkins teaches blues/gospel music
workshops at Brookfield High School. Saturdays, 10am – 12pm or 1pm –
3pm. These workshops are also offered at Rideau High School on Thursday
nights from 7 - 9 p.m. The students will have performance opportunities
in the community during and following the program and the Board charges
only about $120 for an 8-week program plus a small cost of around $5 per
week per student towards the musical accompaniment. To register please

Our programs are designed not only to teach dance but also to promote
the development of well-rounded, culturally aware and strong principled
young persons. We believe that the process of learning and sharing our
unique culture fosters an appreciation and respect for all traditions

We recommend that all participants wear comfortable, non-restrictive
clothing and good sports or dance oriented footwear (sneakers or flat
